Living on the West Coast of Canada, I am accutely aware of the danger posed by earthquakes. We are taught in school what to do in the event of a quake, and we are waiting for the “big one” that is sure to come some day. The people of Haiti are dealing with the aftermath of a devastating quake, in a country with no building codes, so homes and public buildings alike just crumbled, leaving as many as 200,000 dead and an estimated 1.5 million homeless.
Aid agencies are struggling to cope in impossible conditions. Looting and lawlessness is rampant, and they have a daunting task just trying to cope with the injured. They need all the help they can get. There has been an outpouring of donations from people all over the world.
In Second Life, many stores have set up Red Cross donation boxes and/or special items for sale with 100% going to the Red Cross. Omgwtf Barbecue has organized a skybox on the Scribble sim where vendors can set up their items. More items are being added all the time. 100% of the purchase price is going to the Red Cross for Haiti earthquake relief. Above right I’m wearing one of 4 tee shirts by Reek. On the left I have on fri.day’s item, a recolour of their Thermal Henley.
Maitreya has set 2 colours of their new Sasha hair out for 50L each, to benefit the Red Cross. It’s at the mainstore, to the left inside the hair building. Shown above is the bistre colour. The knit hat is colour change.
The poses are by Esme for (pda) also available at the skybox. Myth.takes contains 5 poses, shown are “All My Heroes are Weirdos” and “Sweet Life”.
It may seem like a drop in the ocean, when you read the news and see the devastation. But we can make a difference. Second Life’s creators are stepping up and doing their part to help, and every linden raised counts. Go check it out, and remember to check back as more items are being added all the time.
